How to Select a Suitable Servo Stabilizer for Home Needs?

Power supply is erratic in India, with voltage fluctuations that damage appliances and industrial machinery. Usually, when the voltage goes down, the electric current in an appliance increases resulting in the burning of the appliance. To prevent such an occurrence, servo voltage stabilizer or servo stabilizer is often used to balance out the voltage fluctuation and prevent electrical hazards.

Servo stabilizers stabilize the fluctuating voltages and bring it to the desired range by use of electromagnetic regulators within an autotransformer. If the output voltage is not in the acceptable range, the mechanism switches a tap, to move the voltage in an acceptable range. It recognizes the voltage fluctuations in the supply and regulates it internally to deliver a consistent range of output voltage.

Note power in Watts for all the appliances connected to a stabilizer. The total wattage is the total power consumption or load that the stabilizer will handle. Since the servo stabilizer is available in VA (Volt-Ampere) or kVA, (kiloVolt Ampere conversion from Watts (W) needs to be done. On a general rule and in laymen terms, a 20% increase in the sum total wattage is considered to be a safe value to select a Servo stabilizer for residential use. For factories, the percentage increases and therefore this thumb rule is not considered. For instance – If the total watts are approx. 1200, then adding a 20% to it will increase it to 1440 Watts. This can be considered as the power factor for selecting a servo stabilizer. Usually, a stabilizer comes with different voltage working ranges and is recommended on the base of voltage fluctuations in a particular locality. This gives much more safety and the fluctuations do not affect the appliances in that locality as they are easily covered under the safety limit.

Ease of mounting:

Mounting a servo stabilizer is important, as there is a risk of the stabilizer being wet or damaged when placed on the ground or in open environmental conditions. Therefore, stabilizers must be wall-mounted or placed at a higher level for overall protection from the environment and to human beings.

Proper Indication and digitization

Indicators can display the voltage is regulated. This often gives a fair understanding of the load that the stabilizer is experiencing on a regular basis to supply power to the appliance. Digitization makes a servo stabilizer more accurate, reliable and adaptable to a variety of devices.

Time Delay

Time Delay feature enables sufficient time to balance the current flow with an inbuilt compressor. This is useful in the event of a short duration power cut or a power fluctuation.

Overload Protection

With overload protection, the stabilizer output is completely shut off in case of short circuit or any kind of burnout due to overload. This is one of the paramount features of a desirable Servo Stabilizer.
